Biography

Born in Ribera (Sicily), Liborio grew up in Tuscany, where he studied scenography and costumes at the Academy of Fine Arts and where he developed his passion.

In 1991 he achieved a master of Fashion Design at Domus Acca- demy.

Artist and visionary designer, for more than 16 years Liborio has been Gianfranco Ferre’s right-hand man as creative director of the women’s pret-a-porter collections.
The meeting with the “Mentor” and friend Ferre’, and the long collaboration through which he was able to refine and amplify his skills, gave to him free expression to his personal creative code, from a long and intense path, that led him to a more mature and intimate desire to express a project called simply “DiLiborio”.

This new project was made possible when he met again Giorgia Mattioli, the daughter of the enterpreneur Franco Mattioli from Bologna, who has been a founding member and business part- ner of Gianfranco Ferre’ S.P.A., for decades.
For years Giorgia had the complex task of managing the relatioship between Ferre’ and his technical designer, facing a whole range of production issues.
A contemporary image of fashion, the eternal return of changing shapes that is a never ending cycle.
A journey into the memory of rock and its icons, of couture and its radical choices, passing through the recovery of real and in- delible details, re-assembled with meticulous craftsmanship.

From fashion to art, through music, his path has always been characterized by the fusion of different creative phases, with cross-over experiences in artistic and aesthetic sectors that are quite distinct from each other but, at the same time, complementary.
Like decor, set design, theatrical costume, fashion design, rock and specially punk, whose symbolic aesthetic, has always been a source of inspiration for him; from the Ramones, to the New York Dools, to Debby Harry of the Blondie, up to his current muse and friend, Skin of the Skunk Anansie.
All this is flanked by a constant passionate reference to the sense of beauty and elegance, which has inspired and led him through his collections.
In Milan, in his Atelier, you breathe a new air here. An atmosphere born from a deep esthetical sensitivity, a mix of heterogeneous and apparently contrasting suggestions: the sacred and the profane, the ethnic and the contemporary, avant-garde versus tradition, period costumes and punk rock cohabit in a collage of multifaceted and ambivalent inspirations.

A real creative forge, where you can clearly sense the commitment, the extreme care, the nearly obsessive attention and curiosity behind every gesture of your host, behind the objects he selects, mixes together and loves, behind his ability to create new ways of being and a new aesthetic path which le- aps away from rules and traditions.
